The China International Import Expo (CIIE) is the first fair in China dedicated exclusively to imports, which hosts foreign companies interested in presenting their products and services. The aim of the initiative, promoted by the Chinese Ministry of Commerce (MOFCOM) and the Municipality of Shanghai, is to provide new business opportunities to countries and regions around the world, strengthening cooperation and promoting the development of the global economy.
The fair will be organized in sectoral pavilions, divided by products (Consumer Electronics & Appliances, Apparel, Accessories & Consumer Goods, High-End Intelligent Equipment, Food & Agricultural products, Medical equipment & Healthcare products, Quality life / Luxury products) and services ( Tourism, Financial Services, Culture & Education, Logistics). Interested companies, in the various specialized pavilions, are offered the opportunity to participate with individual stands or within collective exhibition areas.
The first three editions were a great success and recorded wide participation by exhibitors and buyers: 400,000 professional visitors, 150 exhibiting countries, 72 billion dollars of commercial agreements signed. The Chinese authorities are investing heavily in the organization of this fourth edition as a strong signal of recovery of activities and consumption in China, and as an attempt to escape from the serious global health emergency.
The partnership with Industrial and Commercial Bank of China (ICBC), one of the largest and most important Chinese banks, is also confirmed for this edition which, thanks to its rich network of contacts, will organize B2B meetings for Italian SMEs in which Italian exporters will have the opportunity to meet Chinese importers interested in their products. At this link the form with which you can confirm your membership, to be sent completed by 30 April 2021.

THE 2020 EDITION
The third edition of the China International Import Expo officially opened its doors on Wednesday 4 November with the inaugural ceremony which was held at 8 pm local time, 1 pm in Italy. The event, which was held in the National Exhibition and Convention Center in Shanghai, was attended by participants connected by videoconference from all over the world. Among the Italian guests selected to follow the event via videoconference, the President of the Italy China Foundation, Mario Boselli, representing the Italy China Foundation, the Italian Chinese Chamber of Commerce and AICE – Italian Foreign Trade Association, which again this year , on a specific mandate from the Ministry of Commerce, they organized a collective of exhibitors that are part of the official organization of the Italian presence which, also with the intervention of the ICE, foresees the participation of about seventy companies.
Inside the conference center were present officials from the Council of State and the Municipality of Shanghai, the Ministry of Commerce and other ministries, provinces and municipalities representing Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan. With them, foreign diplomats, representatives of international organizations and foreign companies in China. The ceremony began with the opening speech by President Xi Jinping (video available at this link), which was followed by greetings from foreign authorities. Heads of state and government, heads of international organizations, officials at ministerial level and representatives of the international business community connected digitally from abroad. Political leaders include Pakistani President Arif Alvi, South African President Cyril Ramaphosa, Chilean President Sebastian Pinera, Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev, Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic, Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez and Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban, who congratulated themselves on the Chinese management of the health emergency and have expressed high expectations on CIIE 2020.
“I believe the message of President Xi Jinping is very important, in perfect coherence with the purposes of China International Import Export – said President Mario Boselli -: the increase of the internal market as a strategic choice envisaged by the 14th Five-Year Plan, which theorizes the concept of the ‘dual circulation strategy’, was clearly confirmed on that occasion. This is certainly positive for exports from our country, which needs to rebalance the trade balance now strongly in favor of China ”.
After the success of the first two editions and despite the complex historical moment that all countries are facing due to the Covid-19 pandemic, China strongly wanted to confirm the 2020 appointment with the China International Import Expo as a sign of resumption of activities and consumption in China, with the hope of getting out of the serious global health emergency as soon as possible.
About seventy Italian companies participated in the 2020 edition, including 12 companies accompanied by the Italy-China Foundation, the Italian-Chinese Chamber of Commerce and AICE thanks to the signing of a collaboration agreement for the promotion of the event and the organization of a presence of Italian companies at the event, to help provide greater visibility to the exhibitors of our country towards visitors and the media.
By virtue of the positive experience of the last edition, also this year Industrial and Commercial Bank of China (ICBC) was an official partner of the Italy China Foundation, the Italian Chinese Chamber of Commerce and Aice. ICBC which represents the largest and most important Chinese bank, thanks to its rich network of contacts, organized the China Europe CEO Summit and the B2B Matchmaking Session ICBC, during which Italian exporters had the opportunity to meet Chinese importers interested in their products.
